Connecting to Printers
Connecting to Printers
Submitted by Alan Pope on Tue, 2007-10-09 22:51.
In this short screencast we look at various ways of connecting printers in Ubuntu. We don't look at troubleshooting printer issues, as that will be covered in a later screencast, what we do cover is:-
- Printer auto-detection in Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) - Note: Gutsy is not yet released so we do not recommend running it on production hardware, and some features may change between now and the release date.
- Automatic detection of network printers
- Manually configuring network printers
- Connecting to Windows shared printers.
- Printing test pages

For whatever reason, all downloads from screencasts.ubuntu.com are REALLY slow and tend to time out a lot. It would be really nice if we could torrent these videos like we do with Ubuntu releases.
Thanks for the comment. I
Thanks for the comment. I have noticed sometimes downloads are slow, usually just after a new screencast comes out, and a thousand miro players start downloading. I will look into torrents, but I know it will be difficult for me to seed them.

Hi, your English is better than my French, that's for sure!
The webcam I use is a Philips you're right. It's a Philips Toucam 740K. It even has a microphone built in so you can use it for online chat (using Ekiga under Linux :) )
typo
Printer audio detection? It automatically gives you statistics of how many decibels your printer generates? Awesome!
Heh!
Thanks, I thought I'd fixed that everywhere but clearly missed this occurrence.

Hello,
Just writing a few words to hearten you doing some more screencasts.
I've just finished seeing the 15 ones for the last 4 days. It really gives me willing to move out from Win XP to Ubuntu.
But this is a shame game editors don't do games working on Linux. I think this is the only thing that would miss me.
Cya and Keep on!
Great screencast; love the series
Thanks again for this great series. As a relative newcomer to Ubuntu, I really appreciate seeing how to do something before I do it myself. I especially liked the instructions on how to add a network printer that is connected to a Windows machine. I like the series so much I subscribed to it in Miro so I can get the new videos as soon as they come out. Many thanks!
hurray
My my this looks so professional, when I see you do this it seems so simple.
Keep up the good work, your vidz are surely very educational for newcomers!
