Screencast Subtitles
Screencast Subtitles
Submitted by Alan Pope on Mon, 2007-09-10 22:49.In order to make our screencasts as accessible as possible, we are working on creating subtitles for all the screencasts on the site. This page will be updated as we get the screencasts transcribed and those transcriptions translated.
To use the subtitle files, simply download the .srt file linked on the pages listed below to the same location as the associated Ogg video. Rename the .srt file (or the .ogg video) so the two files match. For example "installing_updates_kubuntu.srt" and "installing_updates_kubuntu.ogg". Open the ogg file in your media player of choice. The subtitles should display.
The following media players have been tested:-
- Totem
- VLC
- mplayer
Please feel free to comment below if you have tested a media player and can confirm it works
In addition if you would like to submit translated versions of the subtitle files please see the following page:-
subtitle screencast
There should be a screencast on how to work with subtitles on Ubuntu.
Teach how to insert subtitles in a video, and how to burn dvd discs with subtitles.
A great idea!
I'll add it to the list.

subtitles in flash viewer
It would be great if the local flash viewer could display subtitles depending on user browser locale (english as default). Ability to turn it on/off (default on) would be amazing, but not really necessary ;)
Good news!
The flash player we use does indeed support captions/subtitles, and once we have the technical bits sorted, they will be enabled.
The player has a switch so you can turn the subtitles off too which is remembered across your sessions.
Translating Subtitle_Usage
Hi,
This very page should be accessible in a variety of languages, as its purpose is to explain how to use subtitles. Otherwise, how would people who are not fluent in English and who need subtitles be able to follow the procedure to benefit from those very subtitles we create for them ?
Is it possible to translate
Is it possible to translate this page to spanish? I can help, but I don't know where to send the translation.
By the way, I tested the subtitles with gxine, it works great.

Y marcá "Cargar los archivos de subtítulos automáticamente cuando se carga la película"
No it can read subtitles
just select totem-xine and remove totem-gstreamer and you are done
